Fukui Local Meteorological Office, Predicted 10~20cm of Snow for Level Ground Areas

Due to the strengthening winter pressure pattern over Fukui Prefecture, January 19th has the potential to see heavy snow, particularly among the mountainous areas.

According to the Fukui Local Meteorological Office, the cold front is forecasted to pass through northern Japan on January 18th. In a 24-hour snowfall forecast, until 6:00 p.m. of today, many level ground areas within the Reihoku region will accumulate 10cm of snow, and the mountainous areas of Reihoku, as well as Okuetsu, to accumulate 20cm of snow. The level ground areas of Reinan are expected to accumulate 2~5cm of snow, with the mountainous areas to accumulate 10cm.

In a 24-hour snowfall forecast, until 6:00 p.m. of January 19th, level ground areas within Fukui Prefecture are expected to accumulate 10~20cm of snow, with the mountainous areas potentially accumulating 30~50cm of snow.

According to a weather forecast by the Fukui Local Meteorological Office (reported on 5:00 p.m. of January 17th), the Reihoku region will be snowy with some clouds, and in various areas, accompanied with lightning from the early afternoon. The Reinan region is to be cloudy, with rain or snow during the morning and evening, and in various areas, accompanied with lightning from the early afternoon. For the 19th, the Reihoku region is expected to see cloudy weather with occasional snow.

With the strong winter pressure pattern persisting through towards December 17th, the Japan Meteorological Agency expressed that both flatlands and mountain areas may experience heavy snow, throughout north and west Japan, along the Japan Sea. According to the Fukui Local Meteorological Office, from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. of the 17th, the flatlands within the East Reinan area is predicted to accumulate 10~20 centimeters of snow, while the flatlands in the North Reihoku area is expected to accumulated up to 10 centimeters of snow.

Snowfall forecast for each area within Fukui Prefecture for December 16th, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., are as follows:
North Reihoku (Fukui City, Awara City, Sakai City, Eiheiji Town, Echizen Town)

During the day, Fukui City will have a high of 3⁰C, Ono City with a high of 1⁰C, and Tsuruga City with a high of 4⁰C.

On December 17th, all areas within the prefecture will also experience rain or snow, accompanied with lightning in some areas. In the morning, Fukui City will have a low of 1⁰C, Ono City with a low of -1⁰C, and Tsuruga City with a low of 2⁰C. During the day, Fukui City will have a high of 7⁰C, Ono City with a high of 3⁰C, and Tsuruga City with a high of 7⁰C. The Fukui Local Meteorological Office advises caution due to the snow affecting road conditions, as well as potentially causing high waves in the sea.

Heavy Rain Warning Lifted for Tsuruga and Obama Cities

June 13th, Low Altitude Areas On Alert

At 11:06 a.m., the Fukui Local Meteorological Office announced that the heavy rain warning for Fukui Prefecture’s Tsuruga City and Obama City was lifted.

On June 13th, at 8:21 a.m., the Fukui Local Meteorological Office released a heavy rain warning for Tsuruga and Obama cities in Fukui Prefecture. Until the early afternoon of the same day, low altitude areas were required to be on alert.

According to the meteorological office, due to the seasonal rain front lagging close to the Honshu region, Fukui Prefecture will see a mix of rain and clouds during the 13th, possibly influenced by the humid air; by the evening, some areas may experience heavy rain accompanied with lightning.

On June 14th, it is forecast that the seasonal rain front will travel north along the Japan Sea and, influenced by the warm and humid air, possibly result in an unstable atmosphere. Thus, Fukui Prefecture will see rainfall accompanied with lightning from before noon, with severe rainfall in some areas within the Reihoku region.

Fukui City and Tsuruga City Reaches Temperatures Over 30⁰C, First in the Year

For May 3rd, Clear Weather then Cloudy from Just Before Noon, Rain in the Evening

On May 2nd, the high-pressure system over Fukui Prefecture caused temperatures to rise. Up until 2:00 p.m., two areas saw its temperature highs over 30⁰C, with Fukui City at 30.1⁰C, and Tsuruga City at 30.2⁰C. Within the prefecture, it is the first in the year for temperatures to go over 30⁰C. Furthermore, 10 observations sites within the prefecture all recorded the current year’s temperature high within its respective areas.

According to a forecast by the Fukui Local Meteorological Office, May 3rd will begin with the high-pressure system covering the prefecture, but will then experience the effects of a dip in atmospheric pressure and a humid atmosphere. As a result, the day will start with clear weather, then clouds from just before noon; the evening will see rainfall.
