214 of 232 COVID-19 Cases Within the Prefecture
Fukui Prefecture has reported that until April 30th, it has a cumulative total of 875 COVID-19 cases, of which 43 clusters, comprising of a total of 232 cases reported within April, involve a COVID-19 variant. It was confirmed that all cases involving a variant, 92.2% of reported cases (214 out of 232), are of the U.K. variant of COVID-19.
Furthermore, on April 30th, Fukui Prefecture reported that the number of hospital beds for COVID-19 patients have increased by 30 from 265, reaching their goal of 295 beds across medical institutions within the prefecture. In response to the prefecture’s independent state of emergency, on April 22nd, the prefecture and the Fukui Medical Association came to an agreement to increase the number of hospital beds for COVID-19 patients by 30. The Fukui Prefecture Regional Medical Department explained, “Along with increasing available hospital beds at medical institutions already taking in COVID-19 patients, we were able to secure more beds through additional medical institutions willing to take in patients.”
