Fukui Local Meteorological Office, Advisory Due to Effects on Road Conditions

With the strong winter pressure pattern persisting through towards December 17th, the Japan Meteorological Agency expressed that both flatlands and mountain areas may experience heavy snow, throughout north and west Japan, along the Japan Sea. According to the Fukui Local Meteorological Office, from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. of the 17th, the flatlands within the East Reinan area is predicted to accumulate 10~20 centimeters of snow, while the flatlands in the North Reihoku area is expected to accumulated up to 10 centimeters of snow.

Snowfall forecast for each area within Fukui Prefecture for December 16th, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., are as follows:
North Reihoku (Fukui City, Awara City, Sakai City, Eiheiji Town, Echizen Town)
Flatlands: 0~10 centimeters
Mountain areas: 15-30 centimeters
South Reihoku (Sabae City, Echizen City, Minamiechizen Town, Ikeda Town)
Flatlands: 0~10 centimeters
Mountain areas: 20~40 centimeters
Okuetsu (Katsuyama City, Ono City)
Whole area: 20~40 centimeters
East Reinan (Tsuruga City, Mihama Town, Wakasa Town)
Flatlands: 10~20 centimeters
Mountain areas: 20~40 centimeters
West Reinan (Obama City, Oi Town, Takahama Town)
Flatlands: 10~20 centimeters

According to the Fukui Local Meteorological Office (in today’s 5:00 a.m. report), all areas within Fukui Prefecture will experience rain or snow, accompanied with lightning in some areas. During the day, Fukui City will have a high of 3⁰C, Ono City with a high of 1⁰C, and Tsuruga City with a high of 4⁰C.

On December 17th, all areas within the prefecture will also experience rain or snow, accompanied with lightning in some areas. In the morning, Fukui City will have a low of 1⁰C, Ono City with a low of -1⁰C, and Tsuruga City with a low of 2⁰C. During the day, Fukui City will have a high of 7⁰C, Ono City with a high of 3⁰C, and Tsuruga City with a high of 7⁰C. The Fukui Local Meteorological Office advises caution due to the snow affecting road conditions, as well as potentially causing high waves in the sea.

Fukui City, One Instructor & Three Students Infected With COVID-19

December 16th Report

On December 16th, Fukui Prefecture reported four new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, bringing its cumulative total to 337. Brief details of each case are as follows:

[1] Fukui City male student (20s)
On December 14th, the student experienced a fever of 39⁰C, coughing, and headache. On the 15th, he went to a medical institution for an examination, and to have a biological sample taken; antigen test results showed positive for COVID-19. He has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms.

[2] Fukui City male student (20s)
On December 14th, the student experienced a fever of 38⁰C, coughing, and headache. On the 15th, as a close contact, a biological sample was taken, which tested positive for COVID-19 through a PCR test. He has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms.

[3] Fukui City male instructor (40s)
On December 15th, as a close contact, a biological sample was taken. PCR test results on the 16th showed positive for COVID-19. He is currently asymptomatic, and has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks.

[4] Fukui City male student (10s)
On December 15th, as a close contact, a biological sample was taken. PCR test results on the 16th showed positive for COVID-19. He is currently asymptomatic, and has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks.
