Fukui Prefecture, Four New COVID-19 Infections

November 17th Report

On November 17th, Fukui Prefecture reported four new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, of two Tsuruga City men in their 60s, a Shiga Prefecture man in his 30s, and a Fukui City man in his 70s, bringing the cumulative total of cases to 278.

The first Tsuruga City man in his 60s is a company employee who first experienced a fever of 38⁰C on November 14th. On the 16th, he visited a medical institution for an examination and to have a biological sample taken; PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test results showed positive for COVID-19. He then entered hospitalization at a medical institution designated for infectious diseases on the 17th. He had spent time in Tokyo during November 11th and 12th. He currently has five confirmed close contacts, of three family members living in the same residence, and two work associates.

The Shiga Prefecture man in his 30s is a company employee currently staying in Tsuruga City. On November 14th, he experienced a fever of 38⁰C, sore throat, and fatigue. On the 16th, he went to a medical institution for an examination and to have a biological sample taken; PCR test results showed positive for COVID-19. He entered hospitalization at a medical institution designated for infectious diseases on the 17th. He has no history of travel outside Fukui Prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms, and has no confirmed close contacts.

The second Tsuruga City man in his 60s is a company employee who experienced a fever of 37.4⁰C on November 12th. On the 16th, he went to a medical institution for an examination and to have a biological sample taken; an antigen test result showed positive for COVID-19. He entered hospitalization at a medical institution designated for infectious diseases on the 17th. He has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms. He currently has two confirmed close contacts, o family members living in the same residence.

The Fukui City man in his 70s is an independent businessman who first experienced a fever of 37.5⁰C on November 14th. He visited a medical institution for an examination and to have a biological sample taken on the 16th. PCR test results on the 17th showed positive for COVID-19; he subsequently entered hospitalization at a medical institution designated for infectious diseases. His recent travel history is currently under investigation. He has three confirmed close contacts, of family members living in the same residence.
