Fukui Prefecture, Two New COVID-19 Infections

November 16th Report, Tsuruga City Man and Osaka Prefecture Man

On November 16th, Fukui Prefecture reported two new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, of a male company employee from Osaka Prefecture (in his 30s), and a male security officer from Tsuruga City (in his 60s). The prefecture now has a cumulative total of 274 COVID-19 cases.

The Tsuruga City man (60s) is employed as a security officer at the Mihama Nuclear Power Plant. On November 15th, as a close contact of a COVID-19 patient outside Fukui Prefecture, a biological sample was taken and tested positive in a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test. He subsequently entered hospitalization in a medical institution designated for infectious diseases. He has spent some time within Shiga Prefecture on November 11th. He is currently asymptomatic, and has six close contacts, of two family members within the same residence, and four relatives living separately.

The Osaka Prefecture man (30s) experienced a fever of 37.7°C and fatigue on November 12th. The man was in Osaka Prefecture until the 14th. On the 15th, he went to a medical institution for an examination, and to have a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 16th showed positive for COVID-19. He currently has two confirmed close contacts, of relatives living in a different residence.
