November 13th Report, Novel Coronavirus
On November 13th, Fukui Prefecture reported two new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, of two girls from Sakai City (in their teens), one of whom is a prefectural high school student. The prefecture now has a cumulative total of 271 COVID-19 cases.
On November 9th, the female high school student experienced fatigue and did not attend school. She visited a medical institution for an examination and to have a biological sample taken on the 11th; a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test result on the 12th showed positive for COVID-19. As a precaution, 35 of her classmates will undergo PCR tests. She currently has three confirmed close contacts, of family members living in the same residence. During November 6th to 8th, she had spent some time within Shiga and Osaka prefectures.
The second COVID-19 case is of the older sister of the aforementioned female high school student, who is a student attending a university outside Fukui Prefecture. As a close contact, she underwent a PCR test, which showed positive for COVID-19. She is currently asymptomatic, and has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks.
