Two New COVID-19 Infections in Fukui Prefecture, 91 High School Students & Staff Being Tested

October 18th Report, First Confirmed Cases in Takahama Town

On October 18th, Fukui Prefecture reported that, in Takahama Town, a female company employee in her 40s and her son, a prefectural senior high school student, were infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Both are related to a person who was reported with COVID-19 on the 16th; as close contacts, biological samples were taken on the 17th, which tested positive for the virus.

It is the first confirmed instances of COVID-19 within Takahama Town. The boy has 39 close contacts of students attending the same senior high school. Including 31 other students and 21 teachers who have shared some interaction with the boy, 91 people are undergoing tests.
