October 8th Report, Novel Coronavirus
On October 8th, Fukui Prefecture reported that a Sakai City woman in her 20s was infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The woman is a graduate student at the University of Fukui. On September 30th, the woman had a fever. On October 4th, after the fever had subsided, the woman experienced an impaired sense of smell; she then visited a specialized outpatient facility for a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on the 7th, which showed positive for COVID-19 on the 8th. She has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms. The woman has three close contacts of friends at the same university.
