Fukui Prefecture, 6 New COVID-19 Infections Across Fukui and Sabae Cities

August 31st Report, 5 People Have Some Connection with a Karaoke Lounge

On August 31st, Fukui Prefecture reported 6 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, bringing the cumulative total to 228 cases. Details of each case are as follows:

[1] Female restaurant employee (60s, Sabae City)
On August 24th, the woman experienced inflammation in her throat. She visited an Outpatient Facility for Japanese Returnees and Potential Contacts on the 30th, for a medical examination and to have a biological sample taken. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results showed positive for COVID-19. She has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks.

[2] Male (10s, Fukui City)
On August 28th, the young male experienced symptoms including a fever of 37.8⁰C and fatigue. On the 30th, as a close contact of a previously confirmed COVID-19 case (of a Fukui City woman in her 40s, reported on the 30th), he had a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 31st showed positive for COVID-19. He has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms.

[3] Male company employee (20s, Fukui City)
On August 29th, the man experienced coughing. On the 30th, he visited an Outpatient Facility for Japanese Returnees and Potential Contacts for a medical examination and to have a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 31st showed positive for COVID-19. He had spent some time in Ishikawa Prefecture on August 27th.

[4] Female (80s, Fukui City)
On August 25th, the woman experienced symptoms including coughing and a sore throat. On the 30th, as a close contact of a previously confirmed COVID-19 case (of a Fukui City woman in her 80s, reported on the 27th), she visited an Outpatient Facility for Japanese Returnees and Potential Contacts for a medical examination and to have a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 31st showed positive for COVID-19. She has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms.

[5] Unemployed female (asymptomatic, 70s, Fukui City)
On August 30th, the woman visited an Outpatient Facility for Japanese Returnees and Potential Contacts for a medical examination, and to have a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 31st showed positive for COVID-19. She has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks.

[6] Female restaurant employee (asymptomatic, 70s, Sabae City)
On August 30th, the woman visited an Outpatient Facility for Japanese Returnees and Potential Contacts for a medical examination, and to have a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 31st showed positive for COVID-19. She has no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks.

Of the 6 above cases, 5 cases have some connection with a karaoke lounge. 2 people are close contacts of someone who had visited a karaoke lounge in Fukui City and had been confirmed COVID-19, another 2 are employees of a karaoke lounge in Echizen City, and 1 has visited a karaoke lounge within the Tannan area of Fukui.
