August 29th Report, All Have Connections With a Karaoke Lounge
On August 29th, Fukui Prefecture reported 5 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, of three men from Fukui City, one woman from Fukui City, and one man from Sabae City; all are in their 70s, and have no history of travel outside the prefecture during the past two weeks, or during two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms. The people in three of the five cases are currently asymptomatic.
One of the Fukui City men experienced a fever of 37.5⁰C and coughing on August 26th, and visited a medical institution for an examination on the 27th. On the 28th, he visited an Outpatient Facility for Japanese Returnees and Potential Contacts for an examination and to have a biological sample taken. On the 29th, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result showed positive for COVID-19. He is a close contact of a Fukui City woman who had been reported with COVID-19 on August 27th.
One other of the three Fukui City men is a close contact of a Fukui City man who had been reported with COVID-19 on August 28th. He experienced a fever of 37.6⁰C on the 28th, and visited a medical institution for an examination and to have a biological sample taken. PCR test results on the 29th confirmed positive for COVID-19.
All five have some connection with a karaoke lounge, either having used an establishment which has been linked with a previously reported COVID-19 case, or is a close contact of someone who has visited the lounge.
Fukui Prefecture now has a cumulative total of 211 COVID-19 cases.
