Fukui Prefecture’s New COVID-19 Case Infection Route Traced Through Three People, First Instance Since July

August 16th Report, Potential Infection from Asymptomatic COVID-19 Case

On August 16th, Fukui Prefecture reported a new case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection of a Fukui City woman in her 50s; the woman is the child and a close contact of a Sakai City man in his 70s, who was reported with COVID-19 on August 6th. The Sakai City man (70s) is a family member living in the same residence as another Sakai City man (40s), who was reported with the virus on July 29th. According to the prefecture, since July, it is the first time a person has been infected through a close contact, with the infection route currently traced through three patients.

The Fukui City woman (50s) had met and conversed with the Sakai City man (70s) on August 5th. When the man was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 on August 6th, he had been asymptomatic.
