First COVID-19 Case in the Reinan Area
On April 18th, Fukui Prefecture reported that a patient who had been infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has passed away. Within the prefecture, it is the 5th COVID-19 related death. In addition, there has been confirmation of the first COVID-19 case within the Reinan area.
Regarding the person who had passed away, in respect to the strong wishes of the family, the person’s gender, age, and residence has not been published.
Furthermore, the prefecture reported the confirmed COVID-19 infection of a Wakasa Town unemployed female (in her 30s), and of a Fukui City male company employee (in his 40s); this brings the total number of confirmed cases within the prefecture to 106, with 4 patients in serious condition.
Concerning the case of the Wakasa Town female, it is the first confirmed COVID-19 case within the Reinan area. During the two-week period prior to the onset of symptoms, she had travelled within the Tokai and Kansai regions. On April 14th, she experienced a fever of at least 38⁰C. On the 17th, she took a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and was confirmed as positive for the virus.
As for the Fukui City male, a colleague had been infected with COVID-19, and became a close contact.
