Nurse Stationed at the Infectious Disease Ward

On April 12th, the Fukui Prefectural Hospital reported that a registered female nurse, in her 40s, had been infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The nurse had worked in the infectious disease ward, as well as the general ward, of the hospital from April 1st. On the 6th, she had a headache after work. On the 8th, she experienced a fever; because the fever had continued to persist, the nurse took a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on April 11th, upon which she tested positive for COVID-19.

It has been confirmed that the nurse had close interactions with 56 medical personnel and 45 patients; one of the medical personnel and two of the patients, who experienced fevers, took a PCR test and confirmed negative for the virus. PCR tests for the other close contacts are being carried out, and expected to be completed by the early morning of April 13th.

The Fukui Prefectural Hospital will continue to receive COVID-19 patients, administer care and emergency treatment, and examine outpatients; however, the general ward, where the infected nursed had worked in, will cease accepting new patients for 10 days.
