Lpa Closed This Weekend, Countermeasure Against COVID-19 Infection

April 11 to 12, APITA Fukui-Owada to Remain Open

On April 7th, the Fukui Shopping Mall Association, which manages Shopping Center Lpa (in Fukui Prefecture, Fukui City), announced that the mall will be temporarily closed during the weekend, on April 11th and 12th, as a countermeasure against the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This measure is in response to the request by Tatsuji Sugimoto, governor of Fukui Prefecture, to refrain from nonessential outings during the weekend, as well as the Japan government’s official declaration of a state of emergency.

The last tine Lpa had a temporary closure was in 2018, during a heavy snowfall within the prefecture. Board Chairman Kunio Takeuchi explained, “We made this decision with the customers’ and employees’ safety in mind, being unable to see a complete resolution in regards to the infection within the prefecture.” APITA Fukui-Owada, adjacent to Lpa and in the same building, will still be open.

In addition, SEIBU Fukui (in Fukui City), which has been operating on reduced hours as a countermeasure against COVID-19, has immediately reduced its hours even further by two hours from April 8th; the mall announced its hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A supervisor stated, “Upon the request for self-restraint by the prefectural governor, we are thoroughly discussing the idea of suspending business.”

Shopping City BELL has adjusted its hours to close at 7:00 p.m., one hour earlier than normal, from April 6th to the 30th.
