April 6th Announcement, Following the Continuous Spread of the Novel Coronavirus
On April 6th, the Fukui Medical Association declared a “Medical State of Emergency”, with medical care within the prefecture in danger of collapsing, in light of the continuous spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The association and its chairman, Yukihiko Ikebata, held a conference, raising the issue of the impending shortage of hospital beds at designated infectious disease medical institutions, which could lead to disruptions regarding beds at general hospitals.
The association has recognized the cases in which some medical institutions have closed or restricted medical care upon examining a patient with COVID-19; regardless, the association stressed, “As long as thorough preventative measures are carried out during medical care, the staff will not become a close contact, and thus would not be necessary to close the facility. We wish for the citizens of the prefecture to understand this as well. We hope everyone can work together, and avoid the collapse of medical care.”
