Novel Coronavirus, First Confirmed Case of a Doctor, April 8th
On April 8th, Fukui Prefecture reported a total of 7 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases across Fukui City, Sakai City, Sabae City, and Eiheiji Town, being the prefecture’s 66th to 72nd cases; it is also the first time for a doctor (from Fukui City) to be confirmed with the virus. It is also the first for an Eiheiji Town resident to be confirmed with COVID-19.

[67] Eiheiji Town male company employee, in his 50s
[68] Sakai City male company employee, in his 50s
[69] Sabae City unemployed male, in his 80s
[70] Fukui City male company employee, in his 50s
[71] Fukui City male doctor, in his 80s
[72] Sakai City male company executive, in his 60s
In case #71, the doctor works in a hospital where confirmed COVID-19 patients had visited for treatment. All confirmed cases have had some interaction or close contact with someone carrying the virus.
Among the 72 confirmed COVID-19 cases within Fukui Prefecture, a Fukui City male company executive in his 60s (the prefecture’s 23rd case) has experienced worsening symptoms.On April 7th, he entered intensive care and has been put on a ventilator. This brings a total of 6 patients in serious condition, as reported by the prefecture on April 8th.
