Fukui Prefecture, Five People with COVID-19 in Serious Condition

Undergoing Treatment in Intensive Care, Patients with Underlying Conditions

Up until April 5th, among the 53 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) within Fukui Prefecture, 2 have passed away, and 5 have been experiencing worsening symptoms, entering intensive care (ICU), and put on ventilators; of the five are an Echizen City male company employee in his fifties (case #51) and a Fukui City independent businesswoman in her seventies (case #53). All five, who are in serious condition, have an underlying condition.

The Echizen City man (case #51) fell ill on March 28th and was resting at home. However, on April 4th, the man experienced difficulty breading and proceeded to visit a medical institution, after which he tested positive for COVID-19. The man is experiencing severe pneumonia. The Fukui City woman (case #53) had a cough from March 26th; from the 27th, she visited the same medical institution four times for examination. On April 4th, because of pain and difficulty breathing, she had to be transported through an ambulance, and soon after, tested positive for the virus. Her respiratory condition is not well.

In addition, a Fukui City independent businessman in his seventies (case #3), an Echizen City male company executive in his fifties (case #12), and a Fukui City male company employee in his fifties (case #22) are in serious condition.
