Death of a Fukui Prefecture Man, No History of Travel Outside the Prefecture

Echizen City Male Company Employee in his Fifties, Novel Coronavirus

On April 1st, an Echizen City male company employee in his fifties, who had been infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), passed away. On March 22nd, the man had experienced fatigue and a fever of 39.0⁰C; he then received examinations in multiple medical institutions. On March 27th, he tested positive for the virus through a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and was admitted for hospitalization. On the 28th, he entered intensive care, and was put on a ventilator; however, on the 29th, his condition continued to worsen. During the two-wee period prior to the onset of symptoms, he had no history of travel outside the prefecture. He did have an underlying condition.

He had close interactions with one person, a woman in her thirties who worked int he same company.

On April 2nd, Fukui Prefecture reported that the Echizen City male company employee (50s) had passed away, after being infected with COVID-19, and entering intensive care. This is the first death among those infected within the prefecture.
