An Earthquake in Fukui Prefecture, Shindo Scale of 1 in Fukui City and Other Areas

Magnitude 3.1, Even Ishikawa Prefecture Shakes

On February 20th, at around 7:13 p.m., an earthquake with a Shindo Scale (“seismic intensity scale”) of 1 was observed in Fukui City and in other areas within the prefecture.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicentre of the quake was in the Reihoku region of Fukui Prefecture, at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres; the earthquake measured at an estimated magnitude of 3.1, but there are no concerns of tsunamis resulting from the quake.

Municipalities that have observed at least a Shindo Scale of 1 is as follows:

  • Shindo Scale 1: (Fukui Prefecture) Fukui City, Ono City, Katsuyama City, Eiheiji Town; (Ishikawa Prefecture) Hakusan City
