SEIBU Fukui’s Restaurant Floor to get Full Remodelling

Eight Restaurants for Lunch and Fine Dining, Geared Towards Women

On February 6th, it was announced that the restaurant floor and SEIBU Sky Beer Terrace of SEIBU Fukui’s main building (located in Fukui Prefecture, Fukui City) will receive a complete remodelling. This will be the first time the restaurant floor will be renovated since 1980, when the department store used to be called “Darumaya SEIBU”. Groups, including the Fukui Bank, are working together, connecting with local restaurants hoping to open a shop on the restaurant floor. Eight restaurants, serving lunch and providing fine dining experiences geared towards women, are due to open in July.

The objective is to build a fascinating food mall, and create a bustling mall area in front of the JR Fukui Station West Gate, which is currently under redevelopment, ahead of the spring 2023 opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line to Tsuruga City. Three companies, SEIBU Fukui, Fukui Televition (which manages the SEIBU Sky Beer Terrace), and Fukui Bank, created the project team, and proceeded with discussions on the renovations.

The restaurant floor will be approximately 1,200 square metres. Currently, the floor is divided into five sections, with four restaurants including a soba and a Chinese restaurant. Last August, a family restaurant had closed and moved away from the floor.

The main target demographic, according to the renovation plans, are women in their 30s and 40s. The restaurant floor will be organized in to a “casual dining zone”, where groups of women can enjoy a light meal during their shopping breaks, and a “special dining zone”, made for couples and those looking for a luxurious dining experience.

SEIBU Fukui is hoping for the floor’s interior design to hold a stylish and comfortable space. The business hours will also be extended to 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., from the current hours of 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Fukui Capital & Consulting, a subsidiary of Fukui Bank, is working with the project team in the tenant selection process. The plan is to focus on and connect with local restaurants; decisions will be made by around April.

There are currently two restaurants still operating until the end of February; after which, deconstruction and reconstruction will begin. Reopening is planned to be during late July.

The SEIBU Sky Beer Terrace (approximately 600 square metres) will be renovated to be able to operate in any weather, and change into a buffet-style restaurant, serving many kinds of food including meat dishes. Business will open during late May. The SEIBU Sky Beer Terrace and the new restaurant floor together are expected to bring in 3.4 times more customers, at approximately 340,000 per year, and for sales to go up by 3.3 times, amounting to a yearly goal of roughly 550 million yen.
