Kyoto Marathon Requests Entry Withdrawals in Response to Coronavirus

Entrants From China to Receive Free Entry in Next Marathon

The Kyoto Marathon will take place in Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City on February 16th. However, on February 7th, in response to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, the Kyoto Marathon executive committee announced that mail has been sent to 386 Chinese residents who had entered to participate in the marathon. The mail was an appeal for the participants to withdraw their entry from the upcoming event; in exchange, the participants will be given free entry into next year’s marathon.

According to the executive committee, this year will mark the 9th Kyoto Marathon and, there are approximately 16,000 entries for this year. The countermeasure came under discussion after receiving a large number of inquiries received from Chinese entrants in regards to cancellation, related to flight cancellations and health concerns.
